Lack of financial education and inexperience are some of the major reasons for a critical financial situation. Although only small numbers of children and teenagers are exposed to the dangers of over-indebtedness, critical situations can arise when young adults over the age of 18 enter into a number of new obligations and must bear the responsibility on their own.
At the request of and in cooperation with teachers and debt management advisers, SCHUFA has expanded its educational programme for young people. In the learning programme “SCHUFA macht Schule”, pupils are given the opportunity to acquire an understanding of their responsibility as consumers, using easy to follow material on the topics of financial information and debt prevention.
By the end of 2007, SCHUFA had registered more than 14,000 downloads and CD orders for its free materials via its homepage
