Objectives

While share indices act as a barometer for the financial markets, the aim of the Credit Compass is to:

  • provide empirical indicators to allow measurement of the consumer loan situation in Germany and
  • provide an objective contribution to public discourse on financial culture, consumer competence and over-indebtedness research.

For debt counselling centres and public offices for example, SCHUFA analyses offer valuable help in interpreting and better categorizing the threat of over-indebtedness in a particular region.

For the public, the analyses are an important indicator of how the economy is developing – especially during periods of economic crisis.

Measuring is one thing, diagnosis quite another. For this reason, SCHUFA has commissioned and published numerous studies since 2003 on the topics of debt and over-indebtedness. The results of these studies provide important information on the causes of over-indebtedness and how to prevent it.
